Waco Longboarding Club 2010 Slide Comp
So we should host a slide comp next semester. We are located at the half way point between Dallas and Austin give them a chance to show who is better, and give us a chance to put us on the map.
The hill in Cameron park would be perfect. There is little traffic we could easily hold up traffic during the runs, make it an outlaw event, the hill is fast enough for sliding and the competitors could chose from what part of the hill to start at so they make that choice. we would not get hay bales but that is not a necessity with sliding i feel. We could host this any weekend since people can drive for less that two hours to get here, post it on silverfish, send the word out through other long-boarding connections.

Not a terrible idea, but none of us are good enough to compete I feel.

Yeah I agree with Andy. That would be kindof embarrassing to hold a competition if we aren't even remotely close in skill.

I dont think anyone is skilled enough to go to a competition.. Look up sliding comps on youtube. they are pretty intense and i know that 2 alc guys got 2nd and 7th at a comp in cali comprised of all the good sliders. So we will be chump compared to them

i mean you guys were talking about doing a race and i think that is a very dangerous idea no one in our group can corner correctly... i think we should do a slide comp first because there you cant fuck you shit up...

I think the issue is those who are interested. We have some people interested in doing a downhill race, but all the people in our group that are farther along in learning how to slide do not want to compete in a slide competition yet. So why have an event where we have no one from our group to compete? Also, you can just as easily get bucked off a deck sliding wrong as you can getting bucked off getting speed wobbles or not taking a corner correctly.
And learning how to pre-drift one corner is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to do than learning a whole arsenal of trick slides and being able to properly execute them.
Fanciful idea but no real logical execution.

If we do not do a slide comp or a down hill comp we need to have some event this year. All we have done other than the Monday night sessions is the car wash. Cameron park has died out it takes encouragement to get people to go and longboard i see more of the newer members out there than anyone else. We need to add more events.
